5 Elements Of An About Me Page That Converts Readers Into Subscribers

Is your ‘About Me” page falling flat? Are Your Missing opportunities to gain new subscribers? Well, I hate to break it to you, but your ‘About Me’ Page isn’t really about you at all.

Is your ‘About Me” page falling flat? Well, I hate to break it to you, but your ‘About Me’ Page isn’t really about you at all.

Is your 'About Me" page falling flat? Well, I hate to break it to you, but your 'About Me' Page isn't really about you at all.

I have to admit, when I initially created my blog, the thing I was most excited about writing was my ‘About Me’ page.

I mean who wouldn’t enjoy creating an entire page dedicated to talking about how awesome they are?

Well, if you were around in August when I launched, you may remember that my about me page was, well, ALL.ABOUT.ME.

I mean I pretty much told my entire life story and inserted a picture for every ‘milestone’ I covered.

Needless to say, it fell flat! I literally cringe when I think about it.

You see, your ‘About Me’ Page isn’t really supposed to be all about you.

It should be an introduction to your blog or business and give your readers an idea of what they can expect from you.

Not be flooded with pictures of your engagement, marriage, and your firstborn child (guilty)!

Luckily, my disaster of an ‘About Me’ page is behind me, and I’ve learned which elements are key to creating a flawless, informative, high-converting  ‘About Me’ page.

1. Introduce Yourself – But Don’t Overshare

There’s no doubt that your readers want to know more about you or they wouldn’t have bothered to check out your ‘About Me’ page.

However, there’s a fine line between introducing yourself and sharing your entire life story.

Besides sharing the basics of who you are (name, marital status, number of kids, etc.), don’t forget to share some of your favorite quirks and even an accolade or two.

By doing so, your readers get a better sense of who you are and are able to easily connect with you.

For example, in my about me, I share that “I’m probably the only mom you’ll meet that doesn’t drink coffee”.

Now, while I’m sure that there are other mamas out there that share my sentiments, sharing this particular quirk makes me more relatable to my readers and helps me to stand out!

So be sure to share the things that make you unique – your readers will appreciate it!

2. Introduce Your Blog/Business

Many bloggers have started to refer to their ‘About Me’ page as a ‘Start Here’ page, and I believe that this is why:

Your ‘About Me’ page should ultimately sell your blog/business to your reader.

This is literally the entire purpose of your ‘About Me’ page.

Yup, hate to break it to you but your ‘About Me’ page is more about the reader and what you can do for them than it is about you.

In the blogging world, the most important perspective to consider is the perspective of the reader.

Most times, your reader’s perspective goes a little something like:

“Okay, but what’s in it for me?”

Remember, the ultimate purpose of your blog/business should be to serve others in some way, shape, or form.

As a result, your ‘About Me’ page should clue your reader in on who you serve and it should also let them know what’s in it for them.

3. Give Your Readers A Taste Of What They Can Expect

Now that you’ve shared a little bit of who you are and what your blog/business is all about, a great way to keep your reader engaged with your brand is to give them an idea of the types of posts/services they can expect from you.

Not only is this a great way to get more eyes on your content, but most likely, when a reader takes the time to visit your ‘About Me’ page, it’s safe to say that they like what they’ve seen so far and chances are, they’d love to see more.

I don’t know about you, but when I come across a blog post that I love, I go and check out that person’s ‘About Me’ page.

If I like what they have to offer and can readily see ‘what’s in it for me’, I typically will binge-read a few more of their posts.

THIS is how bloggers gain true followers that consistently engage with their posts and their brand.

So be sure to link to a post or two!

If you blog about multiple topics, like me, feel free to link to a topic from each category.

4. Provide An Incentive For Your Target Audience

Your ‘About Me’ page is a great opportunity to convert your readers into subscribers!

Again, the primary purpose of your ‘About Me’ page is to sell your blog/business to your readers and as a result, get them to engage with your brand.

A great way to get a curious reader to subscribe to your blog is to point them to a FREE incentive that they can get access to once they subscribe.

If you don’t have an email list I HIGHLY encourage you to start one so that you can begin to build a relationship with your readers outside of your blog.

I use Convertkit for all of my E-Mail marketing needs and I LOVE it! It makes creating multiple forms for different freebies a breeze!

5. Encourage Your Readers To Stay Connected

Finally, the last element your ‘About Me’ page should have is a link to each of your social media channels.

As we all know, social media is a great way to stay connected.

It’s also an awesome way for your readers to get a better idea of who you are apart from your blog.

Since most of us are actively engaged on at least one social media site at any given time of day, it’s important that your social media sites are tied to your primary website.

This way you can ensure that your readers stay up-to-date with the latest news/posts from you – ultimately leading them back to your blog.

Also, if you have a Facebook Group connected to your blog, this is a great place to share it – especially if your reader isn’t interested in your freebie but still wants to be connected to your blog!

  1. I love your tips, especially the one to provide an incentive to your target audience. Many people forget about this, but on your about me page you’re able to convert those one-time visitors who resonate with you into fans for life. Offering them a freebie right on your about me page is a great way to do this. I actually wrote an entire blog post on the anatomy of a kickass about me page, so I totally get how important it is. Keep up the amazing work!

  6. Hi Kermilia, love your page and have been blowing you up! >_< Thanks for the tips, I used it for my own "About Me" revamp. It's so hard to do, but you made it manageable! I have a question for you: do you think it's pertinent to use Pinterest for your posts immediately during publishing? I'm not ready to go crazy with Pinterest yet but I have some blog ideas and wasn't sure if I should post them now or hold off publishing until I am optimized and ready to really use Pinterest to the fullest. Thanks again!
