As moms, parenting can be tough, but these are 5 of the best parenting books that I have read so far and I’m excited to share them with you!

Wouldn’t it be great if the nurses gave you a giant “How To Be A Parent” manual as they rolled you out of the hospital with your newborn? It’s like we grow this tiny person and are sent home with this huge responsibility to somehow mold them into decent human beings!

To be honest, while many challenges come with the baby stage of being a parent, as my children have gotten older and more independent, the more I realize that I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing. Obviously, I try my very best and do what I know to do. However, as a researcher by nature, I would always be researching ways to parent better and with more intention.

While there are a ton of resources out there, one of the things that have helped me the most is listening to audiobooks. With this current season of life, there isn’t much time to sit down and read through a book. So I utilize audible to download and listen to all types of books during my day.

Today I want to share 5 of my favorite parenting books that I believe every mom should read! Check them out below and if you see one that you’d like to read, you can download one title for free when you get a free trial of audible.

The Whole Brain Child

Written by a neuropsychiatrist, Daniel J. Siegel, M.D., and parenting expert, Tina Payne Bryson, Ph.D., The Whole-Brain Child provides 12 strategies to nurture your child’s developing mind. The authors do a wonderful job of illustrating how a child’s brain works as children grow and mature, and offer strategies to further encourage healthy brain development.

It is extremely helpful in understanding the ‘why’ behind your little one’s behavior. I also love that you can apply the principles in this book no matter what age or stage your little one is in. The authors do a great job providing age-appropriate methods and strategies that you can apply right away to raise emotionally healthy, balanced children.

Thankfully, the author, Dr. Laura Markham, Ph.D., a trained clinical psychologist provides practical tips that show you how to stop trying to control your little one and instead, coach them into becoming all they can be.

I love that she shares tips that you can apply immediately to stay calm while also staying connected with your little one through each stage of life.

As you can probably tell by the first two books, instilling emotional intelligence is very important to me so when I discovered this book, written by world-renowned therapist Dr. Gottman, I was blown away at the wonderful job he does teaching parents how they can help their children to learn to regulate their emotions.

The book also explains how in doing so, you increase the intimacy and closeness between you and your child. His five-step process gives parents like you and me the tools we need as we teach our children appropriate ways to navigate through tough situations.

This parenting book by Paul David Tripp was one of the first books I’ve ever read about parenting. It was when I realized that I needed some insight to really thrive in this whole parenting thing. As a Christian, godly principles are the foundation of my parenting beliefs and this book really helped me lay a solid foundation.

In this book, Paul teaches and expounds upon 14 biblical principles that help give parents a larger perspective in our parenting efforts. Paul helps us remember that in all of our parenting efforts and strategies, we must also rely on the grace of God to help us and shape how we view our role as parents.
