How I Got My First Sponsored Post – 2 Days After I Launched

By following these three steps I was able to land my very fist sponsored post and I’m sharing how you can do the same.

While some links in this post contain affiliate links (which means I may receive a commission if you make a purchase) all opinions are my own. Thanks so much for supporting me! To learn more, check out my Disclosure and Privacy Policy

As many of you know, The Millennial Stay-At-Home Blog launched on 8/20! It hasn’t been a month yet but man, it has been amazing so far.

So amazing that 2 DAYS after I launched, I was contacted by a company who wanted to collaborate on a review of their product, the Chomp! foldable plate.

You can check out my review for that here

I must say, it was an amazing feeling for someone to tell me that they’d come across my blog, liked what they saw, and wanted to collaborate with me.

It reassured me that all of my hard work hasn’t been in vain.

Since the launch, I’ve been able to create and grow The Millennial Stay-At-Home Mom into not just a blog, but a brand.

By focusing on developing a cohesive brand image, creating engaging content, and having organic engagement and growth on social media, you can also land your first sponsored post!

Let’s get into this shall we?

Lay A Solid Foundation

Before you start working with brands, you want to be sure that you lay a solid foundation for your blog.

So, first things first, if you’re blogging on a free platform such as wix or wordpress.com, STOP what you’re doing and go get a self-hosted domain.

With free platforms, it’s almost impossible to monetize your blog. Customization is also is also extremely limited on free platforms.

Besides, www.myblog.com looks way more professional than www.myblog.wordpress.com.

I’ve created a step-by-step tutorial that you can follow along with to set up your very own self-hosted WordPress site in minutes! Check that out here.

Bluehost is my hosting company of choice! They have 24/7 customer service, PLUS you also get a FREE domain when you choose them as your hosting provider. Sign Up with Bluehost Here

Once you’ve got your domain and hosting, make sure you install a quality theme so that your site looks professional. I absolutely love BluChic themes. The theme I have now comes from them and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it!

Create Engaging Evergreen Content

Before you reach out to any brands, try to have a post for each category on your site. It’s best to aim to have around 5-8 posts already up on your site to give your readers and potential clients an idea of your writing style and content.

You know what they say, ‘Content Is King’. Therefore, dedicate yourself to producing high quality, engaging posts. Try to be consistent in your writing tone and always keep your audience in mind.

It’s very important to consider how your post can benefit your audience. Don’t get me wrong, it’s okay to write a personal blog post from time to time but try to provide your readers with value in each post.

Be Consistent Across Social Media

This is one of the most important things you can do as a blogger. If someone is looking for your blog, no matter the social media channel, your username should be consistent with your brand.

For example, on Instagram and Pinterest my user name is ‘themillennialsahm’. On Twitter however, my username is ‘millennialsahm’. Although it’s not exactly the same as the other two, it’s still consistent with my brand.

Additionally, try to use the same picture for each Social Media platform. By doing so, brands are able to put a face with your blog and you’ll stand out among the crowd.

Then, engage, engage, engage! Find bloggers in your niche to follow and engage with! I’ve developed so many wonderful relationships with fellow mom bloggers in the short time that I’ve been blogging. Blogging can get lonely if you don’t have any support so make sure you find your tribe!

Make Your site easy to navigate

When readers come to your site, two things should happen.

First, they should be able to find exactly what their looking for. Make your categories and pages clear and specific. Don’t assume your reader will know where to look.

Which brings me to the next point.

Readers should immediately see what you can offer them.

I know it may sound off-putting but think about it!

When your favorite store has a sale, they don’t hide it on the sales page. Instead, they splatter it across the home page in flashing lights to get your attention.

The same concept applies to your blog! So if you have a freebie or a post with tons of value, put that front and center!

Add A “Work With Me” Page

Many bloggers overlook this step – especially when they’re just starting out.

I get it.

You feel like too much of a novice for someone to actually want to work with you. Right?

Wrong!

Let your blog (brand) speak for itself.

Then give potential clients a place where they can speak to you!

Creating a ‘Work With Me’ page let’s brands know that you’re open to collaborating. I know some of you may be thinking, “Isn’t that what the ‘Contact Me’ page is for?”

Not quite!

By having a page specifically dedicated to giving potential clients the opportunity to reach out and work with you, you have a much better chance of creating organic partnerships.

Don’t get me wrong, you definitely shouldn’t shy away from pitching to brands but think about it like this.

Someone comes across your blog, they like your content and they think you’d be a great person to collaborate with.

Instead of having to search for your contact info, they go to your ‘Work With Me’ page and pitch themselves TO YOU!

So go ahead and create your ‘Work With Me’ page on your site. Remember, make it easy to find!

Once you have all of these elements in motion on your blog, you’ll be surprised at the number of inquiries that land in your inbox!

Until Next Time,
