Hearth Display Review: Is It Worth It for Busy Families?

If you’ve been following along on my Instagram, you may have already seen me mention our Hearth Display. I’ve been using it for a couple of months now, and I’ve received enough questions about it and have used it long enough that it seemed like it was time for a full, honest review.

First, the important disclaimer: this is not sponsored. I bought this with my own money and I’m sharing my real experience: the good, the not-so-great, and everything in between. As a busy mom, the mental load of running a household and keeping a family on track is no joke, and when I find something that genuinely helps, as always, I want to share it with you.

So…is the Hearth Display actually worth it? Here’s my honest take.

What Is the Hearth Display?

The Hearth Display is a 27-inch wall-mounted touchscreen designed to be a centralized command center for your entire household. Think of it as replacing your dry-erase board, paper calendar, sticky notes, and chore chart all in one sleek, always-visible display.

It connects to your home Wi-Fi and pairs with a companion app on your phone. From there, you can manage your family’s shared calendar, daily routines, chores, meal planning, grocery lists, and more. Everything is visible on the display in your home and manageable from your phone when you’re on the go.

The display itself measures 16.5” wide, 26.7” tall, and just 1.2” deep. It also comes in three frame options black, white, or light wood (the one we have) so it can easily blend into most home aesthetics.

How We Use the Hearth Display Day to Day

We’ve had our Hearth Display for a couple of months, and the way we use it has evolved as we’ve gotten more comfortable with the features. Here’s what a typical day looks like for our family:

• Routines. Each of my kids has a customized morning, afternoon, and evening routine visible on their profile. Getting dressed, brushing teeth, eating breakfast, etcm it’s all there with kid-friendly icons. There is even an option for them to select their mood for the day! They can check off each step themselves, which has been a huge help in building their independence and reducing the amount of times I have to repeat myself before school.
• Calendar check-ins. The shared family calendar keeps all of our appointments, activities, and events in one place. I love being able to glance at it and see the full week at a view without having to open my phone.
• Meal planning. I add our weekly dinners directly through the app and they show up on the display. No more “What’s for dinner?” they can just look at the display.
• Photo display. When the display isn’t actively being used, it rotates through our family photos. This is a newer feature they’ve added recently and I love it. It makes the display feel warm and personal rather than just functional.

The Pros: What We Love About the Hearth Display

• Visible routines help build real independence. My kids knowing exactly what they need to do (without me telling them) has been one of the biggest wins from having the Hearth Display. The visual cues and step-by-step routines have made mornings, afternoons, and evenings noticeably smoother.
• The whole family is on one accord. Having one shared calendar that everyone can see has reduced so much of the “I didn’t know about that” or “when is this” back-and-forth.
• Chores are actually getting done. The combination of assigned to-dos, the ability to check things off, and the confetti celebration when tasks are completed has made chore time genuinely more engaging for my kids. The streak tracking also helps them stay motivated over time.
• Hearth Helper is your very own perosnal assistant. This is a newer feature and it is a game-changer! You can snap a photo of a paper schedule, a school flyer, or a printed calendar and Hearth Helper will digitize it and add it to your schedule for your approval. As a mom of kids in multiple activities, this has saved me so much manual entry time and ensures that I don’t miss important dates.
• The companion app is excellent. Managing everything from my phone is intuitive and easy. I can update the calendar, assign tasks, build routines, and check on completed chores all from the app. This is actually where most of my managing happens (more on that in the cons).
• They are constantly adding updates. Hearth has released over 113 features in the last two years, including the rotating photo display, the Hearth Helper, and Stars & Rewards – a built-in motivation system where kids earn stars for completing tasks and can redeem them for custom rewards you set. Knowing the product is actively evolving makes the investment feel more worthwhile.
• The display design is beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it looks on our wall. The frame options are aesthetically pleasing, it sits flush, and in Privacy Mode it shows a clean wallpaper or our rotating family photos.
• Supports external caregivers. You can share your Hearth calendar with grandparents, babysitters, or other caregivers so they’re always in the loop.

The Cons: What to Know Before You Buy

• The upfront cost is significant. The Hearth Display is a premium product with a price tag to match. This is not an impulse purchase, and I waited months before officially pulling the trigger on this purchase.
• A monthly subscription is required. You can’t enjoy all any of the features of the Hearth Display without an active Family Membership. Pricing ranges from $5.76/month on multi-year plans to $9/month on a monthly plan. Your first month is free, but after that, the subscription is an ongoing cost on top of the device. For some families this is fine; for others, it’s definitely something worth factoring into the decision.
• Updating the calendar directly on the display is clunky. Touching the screen to add or edit events is possible, but it’s not the smoothest experience. I do most of my managing through the companion app, which is much more intuitive.
• The plug is bulky and not very discreet. A small thing, but worth noting. The cord and plug aren’t the most elegant, especially if your mounting location doesn’t have a nearby outlet so be sure to plan your mounting spot with this in mind.
• No Google or Alexa integration. Hearth doesn’t currently integrate with Google Home or Amazon Alexa. Personally, we don’t use either so this hasn’t affected us, but if your home runs on a Google or Alexa ecosystem, it’s something to be aware of. Note: Hearth does connect with Google Calendar, iCal, and Outlook for calendar syncing, just not the smart home assistant side.

The Verdict: Is the Hearth Display Worth It?

For our family, the answer has been a resounding yes. It has genuinely taken a significant chunk of the mental load off of me, helped my kids develop better daily habits, and brought a sense of structure and visibility to our days that I didn’t realize I was missing.

Is it perfect? No. The upfront cost and monthly subscription are real considerations, and a few small design quirks exist. But the overall experience: the routines, the shared calendar, the chore system, and the constant product updates has made it a worthwhile addition to our home.

If you’re a family that struggles with keeping everyone on the same page, reducing the “I forgot” and “I didn’t know,” and building independence in your kids, the Hearth Display is absolutely worth looking into. We’re happy with our purchase and I would buy it again.

Yes setup is was pretty simple and straight forward. After umboxing, you mount it, connect to Wi-Fi, scan the QR code, download the companion app, and start creating profiles. We had our display up and running within about 20-30 minutes after unboxing.

What I love about the Hearth Display is that it’s designed to work across ages and can grow with my kids. The visual, icon-based routines make it accessible for younger kids who can’t read yet, while the chore chart, calendar, and to-do features engage older kids and teens.

Does Hearth Display work with Google Calendar?

Yes! Hearth connects with Google Calendar, iCal, and Outlook for calendar syncing.

Can you use the Hearth Display as a photo frame?

Where is the best place to mount the Hearth Display?

The Hearth Display works best in high-traffic area like the kitchen, entryway, or hallway where everyone in your family will see it regularly, multiple times a day. Make sure there’s a nearby outlet, as the plug is somewhat bulky and cord management is something to think through during installation.
