With Fall seemingly leaving just as quickly as it arrived, the cold winter months are officially upon us, which means, it’s time to take a closer look at your skincare routine.

As a busy mom who has suffered from eczema, I learned early on just how sensitive my skin is and as a result, I learned that the colder months can cause my skin to become extremely dry and brittle. While it can be challenging to carve time to take care of my skin with two little toddlers to chase after, I must be intentional about giving my skin the attention it needs to prevent it from being dry and irritated this Winter.

I’ll be honest, it’s taken a while to create a routine that is not only effective, but that’s also realistic and easy to maintain. Thankfully, after much trial and error, I’ve discovered 3 easy, fool-proof ways to prevent dry skin in the winter and enjoy, smooth, silky skin year-round.

Make Time To Exfoliate

This is a step that is often overlooked but has been crucial in keeping my skin from becoming dry and brittle during the cold winter months.

Exfoliating your skin has a ton of benefits such as removing dead skin from the surface of your skin, unclogging your pores, and encouraging blood circulation! While you can exfoliate every day, most busy moms like myself simply don’t have the time to exfoliate that often. So to make it more realistic for my busy schedule, I make it a priority to exfoliate at least once a week.

Keep Skin Silky Smooth

In addition to exfoliating at least once a week, I also recommend shaving regularly to keep your skin smooth and free of stubble. If you have sensitive skin like me, you might be surprised that I’ve included shaving as a way to prevent dry skin – but hear me out.

I’ve used many different types of razors through the years and they all would leave my skin extremely irritated causing terrible breakouts – especially in the winter months. It wasn’t until I tried the new Philips SatinShave rechargeable electric shaver that I started to see the benefits of shaving regularly without fear of being left with dry, flaky skin.

Since I have extremely sensitive skin, I love that the floating foil shaving head maintains close skin contact for an even shave and that the pearl tip trimmers next to the foil help protect my skin from irritation.

Not to mention, I get a smooth shave every time I use it thanks to the S-shaped handle which helps me easily get to all of those hard to reach spots. While the Philips SatinShave can be used wet or dry, I’ve found that during the winter my skin responds a lot better when I use it in the shower.

The Philips SatinShave also comes with 3 additional attachments and a convenient pouch which makes it easy to keep it put up and away from little hands. Moisturize Often

After shaving, to fully reap the benefits of the silky-smooth shave I get from my Philips SatinShave, I make sure to moisturize my skin. Since I have a normal/dry skin type, I’m sure to avoid any products that contain alcohol to ensure that my skin retains as much moisture as possible.

Depending on your skin type, you can use a combination of oils, lotions, and creams to replenish your skin, but I highly recommend sticking to natural products such as coconut oil, shea butter, vitamin e oil, etc.

In the winter months, there isn’t much humidity in the air which causes the cold brisk air outside to strip your skin of most of its moisture, leaving it dry and brittle. So you want to be sure to moisturize often to keep your skin soft and supple.
