With two toddlers 4 and under, quality time with my hubby can be hard to come by. Not to mention, as an essential worker, my hubby’s schedule has been a lot busier than usual. That said, when it comes to spending quality time together, we have to get creative!

So today I’m sharing one of our favorite easy date ideas: a car picnic.

Car picnics are one of the best, budget-friendly ways to spend some quality time together no matter where you are! Not to mention, the upcoming Fall weather is the perfect time to enjoy your picnic. Car picnics are one of the best ways to enjoy quality time and beautiful weather minus all the ants and bugs that would love nothing more than having a taste of your lunch.

Before you surprise your spouse with a car picnic, here are three easy tips to ensure that your car picnic becomes your new favorite date ideas!

Make It Comfy

Before you grab your spouse or any food, first you want to make sure your car is comfy and cozy!

The trunk of your car may not be the comfiest spot for long periods of time, which is why blankets and pillows are crucial – and the more the merrier! We tend to keep a few blankets in the trunk of our car but for our car picnic’s we grab extra pillows and a picnic blanket with a waterproof backing just in case we have any spills.

It’s also a good idea to pack a tablet for an easy way to watch your favorite show or movie on the go!

Easy Snacks

Once you’ve gotten your blankets and pillows, now it’s time to gather your snacks!

Whenever we plan our car picnics, we like to stick to easy grab and go snacks that don’t require refrigeration – with the exception of fruit! So we typically pack pretzels, fruits like strawberries and sliced apples, celery, and crackers to make a simple snack board.

Don’t worry, no need to drive to the beach or anything fancy, but somewhere with elevation where you can see the city or nice park with big open skies during sunset are a few of the best places to enjoy your car picnic.
