These fried catfish tacos are one of our absolute favorite go-to meals and are the perfect hearty dinner solution for any day of the week!

As a little girl, my mom would always make my brother and I catfish nuggets, and we’d eventually graduate to our very own fried catfish filet complete with white bread and all the fixings.

I would even go fishing with my uncle and we would catch the catfish ourselves for dinner later that night. Needless to say, I am no stranger to some delicious fried catfish! Now that I’m married with three children, catfish is still a huge staple in my family.

Thankfully, my husband shares the same love for catfish and is always down to try different recipes with me – which is how many of our favorite catfish recipes were born!

That said, I am so excited to be partnering with The Catfish Institute to bring you these delicious Fried U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish Tacos as well as other, mouth-watering catfish recipes over the next couple of months!

Fried Catfish Tacos

If you didn’t know, there is a lot more to U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish than its delicious, flaky texture. In fact, U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish is recommended by The National Audubon Society and Monterey Bay Aquarium as a safe, sustainable, and environmentally friendly seafood choice.

Who knew you could enjoy catfish while also being environmentally conscious? All the more reason to whip up these tacos if you ask me!

Trust me, I know the recipe list can seem daunting, but once you have gathered your ingredients, the recipe is pretty simple to follow!

First things first is the fish!

Before we can even think about assembling our tacos, we must first fry our fish! The flaky texture of U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish makes it perfect for frying and it literally melts in your mouth!

Simply cut your filets into strips and place them in a medium-sized bowl. Pour buttermilk over the catfish and set it in the fridge for 10-15 mins.

In a ziplock bag (or my favorite: a used plastic grocery store bag), add in your cornmeal, flour, cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper, and mix until well combined!

Once you’ve combined all of your dry ingredients, remove your catfish from the fridge and drain the excess buttermilk.

In a large pot or deep fryer, add your canola oil and heat on medium/high. One of my favorite ways to tell if the oil is ready is to put a wooden spoon into the oil. Once tiny bubbles start to appear around the edges of the spoon, then your oil is ready for frying!

Take a handful of U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish strips and place them inside the bag with the dry ingredients and shake to coat the catfish well.

Next, simply fry your U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish for no more than 3-4 minutes or until you get that beautiful golden brown color. Repeat this process until you have fried all of your catfish. Then, set your fried catfish aside on a paper towel-lined plate.

In the meantime, I like to go ahead and make the homemade Cajun Remoulade and heat my tortillas.

To make this Cajun Remoulade, grab a medium-sized bowl and combine mayo, Dijon mustard, honey, lemon juice, pickle juice, Worcheshire sauce, Cajun seasoning, parsley, paprika, and fresh, minced garlic, and mix well.

To store, place in a small glass jar or container and place in the fridge. When refrigerated, this remoulade lasts for 5-7 days.

Next, heat the corn tortillas! My favorite way to do this is to add a splash of oil to a cast iron skillet and heat the corn tortillas for about 1-2 minutes on both sides!

Now for the fun part – building your tacos!

Grab your tortillas and add in your fried U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish strips and top with a very generous serving of the cajun remoulade. Since U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish has a fresh, consistently mild, yet slightly sweet flavor, they are perfect for these fish tacos.

For garnish, I like to top with a bit of shredded purple cabbage, fresh cilantro, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice!
