College For Christmas: How To Give Your Children The Gift of A College Education
With the holidays right around the corner, learn how you can give your children the gift of a college education.
With the holidays right around the corner, learn how you can give your children the gift of a college education in this post created in partnership with Virginia529. All opinions are my own.
As a first-generation college graduate, I know first-hand the importance of investing in your college education early. Now that I have two little ones of my own, my husband and I have already been thinking about the best ways to invest in their future.
I have to admit, with the ever-rising cost of college tuition and expenses such as room & board, meal plans, & textbooks (which can get pretty pricey), the idea of being able to save enough for both of our boys was pretty daunting, and we weren’t exactly sure where we should start.
Then we learned about Invest529 – an affordable, tax-advantaged investment program available from Virginia529 that makes it easy to start saving for your child’s college education. Invest529 is administered by Virginia529, the nation’s largest 529 plan. But this is a national program open to all families.
One of my favorite things about the Invest529 savings program is how easy it is to get started. With as little as $25, you can open an account and start saving right away!
Not only is it easy to get started, but Invest529 accounts have no annual service fees and you don’t have to worry about incurring any fees when you withdraw money for qualified higher education expenses.
Invest529 accounts are also extremely customizable depending on your savings goals and overall purpose for your account with several different portfolio options to choose from. You can even create a unique allocation mix with more than one investment portfolio!
As much as we would love for our children to attend our Alma Mater, we want them to be able to attend the college of their choice. With an Invest529 savings account, our boys would have the option to attend any university in the nation, and if they wanted, they could even decide to attend university out of the country!
That said, my husband and I didn’t want to rule out the possibility that one or both of our children could decide not to pursue higher education altogether. Thankfully, no matter what they decide, the money that we will have invested in our Invest529 account is still ours and we can transfer the account to another member of the family (with no penalty fees!), or simply withdraw the funds.
My absolute favorite feature of Invest529 savings accounts is the fact that ANYONE can contribute to our children’s future by purchasing an Invest529 gift card!
I love that all of our loved ones can play a role in giving our kids the gift of higher education! They can simply purchase an Invest529 gift card at Walmart.com or select H.E.B. Grocery stores and Target locations.
Then all we would have to do is redeem the Invest529 gift card at Invest529.com and add the funds to our account. You can also use the Invest529 gift cards to open a new account!
To find an Invest529 Gift of College gift card retailer near you, go to Invest529.com.
With the holidays quickly approaching, Invest529 gift cards take all the guesswork out of gift-giving, and are the perfect way for grandparents, aunts, and uncles to give your children the gift of a college education this holiday season!
