If you’ve been following along on the blog, you know that I decided to start waking up earlier in the mornings in an effort to be more productive throughout my day.

In addition to my morning routine, I decided to create a night routine to complete the ‘structure’ for my day.

(Yes, my OCD is showing…I know.)

By creating a night-time routine, I’ve been able to tie up any lose ends from earlier in the day.

Since I’m a night owl by nature, it gives me a chance to indulge in a little me time as I enjoy the quiet!

Since incorporating it into my day, I can go to sleep knowing that I have a clean slate in the morning.

So if you’re looking for an easy, productive night-time routine that you can do once the kids are in bed, keep reading!

Tidy Up The Kitchen

I will admit that the kitchen is my least favorite area of the house to clean.

For as long as I can remember, I have loathed washing dishes.

While I mainly use the dishwasher, I pretty much still have to ‘wash’ them before I put them in there sooo yeah.

That said, there is nothing worse that waking up to a dirty kitchen.

Nothing.

Waking up to a clean kitchen makes my mornings go 10x smoother.

I’m not talking deep cleaning here either.

I mainly focus on wiping down the counter tops, making sure left-overs are put away, sweeping the floor, and running the dishwasher.

It typically takes all of 30 minutes to do and I’m always soo glad that I went ahead and got it done.

Pick Up Toys

As moms, we all know how quickly toys can get scattered through-out the house.

While I’ve pretty much mastered the art of avoiding stepping on toys in the dark.

They can really be an eyesore when they’re scattered all over the living room.

So at night, once the kids are sleeping, I go through the main rooms, pick up the toys, and put them away.

Is this my favorite part of my night-time routine?

Not at all!

But, having them put up and out of the way makes such a huge difference.

Set Out Clothes For The Next Day

I know this may seem a bit ‘old school’ but you know what they say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.

When I was younger, my mom would make my brother and I get our clothes ready for the next day, the night before.

While my kids haven’t started picking out their own clothes yet, it takes no time for me to grab something for them to wear the next day.

I also ‘restock’ the diaper bag with the essentials, just in case we are out and about the next day.

Work On Business/Hobby/Me Time

As a full-time blogger with two young children, it can be hard to find time to actually sit down and blog.

Since I started my blog in the wee hours of the night, I’m pretty used to blogging at night time, and I actually prefer it to blogging in the mornings.

Since I take the weekends off, Monday through Friday I spend this portion of my night-time routine blogging.

The time I spend varies based on what I need to get done that day.

As a general rule of thumb, and to make it possible for me to continue to wake up earlier, I strive to be in bed by at least midnight (or 1:00am).

On the weekend, when I’m not working on my blog, I typically spend this time with my hubby, or I indulge in some quality ‘me time’.

While it isn’t necessary for me to have some form of ‘self-care’ everyday, it is important that I make time for some uninterrupted ‘me-time’ each week.

That said, ‘Me-Time’ for me looks different each week, but I’m always so refreshed when I make time for it.

Prayer/Devotional

To wrap up my night, I spend some time in prayer and reading the scriptures.

If you’ve read my five step morning routine, you know that I also start my days with prayer and devotionals.

It’s also important for me to end my day with this as well.

Typically my morning prayers are more full of gratitude and thankfulness.

In contrast, my night-time prayers tend to be filled with me casting my cares onto the Lord and trusting Him with the things that are weighing heavy on my heart that night.

I always feel 10x better, and as ashamed as I am to admit it, I tend to be super drowsy once I’m done praying.
