Being a dog mom has taught me a lot of things but one of the most important is that there are always different ways to take better care of your dog. If you follow me over on Instagram then you know that we became dog parents back in October to an adorable Siberian Husky pup that we named suede. At this point, Suede has had all of his puppy shots and goes to the dog park regularly to run around and play with other dogs.
While we are currently in the process of training Suede, there are a few other things that we have been doing to ensure that he continues to stay happy and healthy. So if you’re wondering how you can step up your Dog Parent game and take better care of your dog, keep reading.
Embrace Being A Dog Parent
Before we dive into the more hands-on practical tips, it’s important that before you ask yourself how you can take better care of your dog, that you fully embrace being a dog parent! I mean, let’s face it, they don’t call dogs man’s best friend for nothing!
While there are many ways you can embrace being a dog parent, I highly recommend starting with the light-hearted book, Doggos Doing Things: The Hilarious World of Puppos, Borkers, and Other Good Bois by Creators of @doggosdoingthings from Running Press. This hilarious gift book is the perfect gift for new and experienced dog parents alike and is sure to be the source of many, many laughs.
Make Play A Priority
Once you’ve fully embraced the beauty that is being a dog parent, now we can get into the practical ways that you can take better care of your dog starting with making play a priority. No matter the breed of your dog, I can guarantee that they love a good play session! A few of my favorite dog toys come from Multipet, specifically The Ultimate Duck & 13 Squeaker Smiling Dog Toy.
If you know anything about huskies, you know that they get bored easily and have a ton of energy so I love that both The Ultimate Duck & 12 Squeaker Smiling toys fight boredom, encourage movement, and provide comfort for nervous dogs. As always, be sure to supervise your pet whenever they are playing with pet toys. You can find both the Ultimate Duck & 12 Squeaker Smiling Dog Toy at Walmart and Walmart.com.
Another fun option to make a play a priority for your pup is the iDig from iFetch. Not many people know this but Huskies LOVE to dig so the iDig from iFetch is perfect for Suede. The iDig provides a positive outlet for his natural desire to dig and comes with 3 flaps for burying the “treasure” allowing them to use their brains as well as their paws. You can get 15% off of an iDig digging toy by using code BABBLEFEB at goifetch.com.

Healthcare
Just because vet visits aren’t as frequent, it’s important to continue regular healthcare practices and grooming to take better care of your pets. Aside from the regular bath time routine, we have for Suede, we also use Vet’s Best Ear Relief Wash & Dry Ear Cleaner Kit. It’s a dog ear cleaner that soothes raw, itchy, and smelly dog ears keeping them fresh and dry between baths. I love that it contains natural ingredients like chamomile, clove oil, tea tree oil, and aloe vera.
Another amazing product from Vet’s Best is their Advanced Hip & Joint supplement. It’s Veterinarian formulated and helps your pup maintain healthy, normal cartilage and connective tissue and includes healthy antioxidants. We’re looking forward to starting Suede on it once he turns 1.
Another regular grooming practice that is commonly overlooked is dental care for your pup. In addition to the dental chews that we give suede, we also use Enzymatic Brushless Oral Care products. The Breath Freshening Spray delivers a fine focused mist and provides over 900 sprays in one bottle. The Toothpaste Gel can be applied twice a day either with a finger or a brush but brushing is not necessary. Simply apply and the pet’s saliva will distribute the toothpaste gel.
Lastly, the Drinking Water Additive is the perfect way to help your pet get the benefit of enzymes washing over their mouth with each lap of water. We add 2 pumps to about 4 cups of fresh drinking water for Suede replacing the water daily. To get 10% off of Oratene products, use code Oratenepet to save 10% at Zymox.com from 2/1 until 3/7.
Provide High-Quality Treats
Finally, one of the easiest ways to take better care of your dog is to provide them with delicious, high-quality treats. Some of Suede’s favorite treats right now are Biggies Almond Butter & Coconut + pb n’ joy Peanut Butter & Banana from Fruitables. The Biggies Almond Butter & Coconut is 2x larger than their original baked treats and is made with real almond butter and coconut.
It’s no secret that dogs love the delicious, creamy taste of peanut butter and Fruitables pb n ‘joy Peanut Butter and Banana is all-natural with a chewy texture that Suede loves! Plus it’s made with delicious real peanut butter and bananas making the perfect healthy dog treat for your pup.
There you have it!
