Let’s face it – motherhood is tough!
Especially if you’re like me and struggle with time management.
As a stay-at-home mom, it can be hard to keep all of my plates spinning at once.
Managing a household while keeping your kids alive, and your marriage thriving is no easy task!
However, there are ways to get a better grip on it all.
If you’ve been keeping up on the blog, you know that I adopted the practice of waking up earlier than my kids.
Additionally, I created a morning and night routine to make things easier for me throughout the day.
But thats the thing…
How the heck do we manage the actual day without pulling our hair out?
I’ll be honest, I haven’t gotten it down to a science, but I have incorporated a few practices that have made things a lot easier.
Are you ready to finally take control of your day instead of feeling overwhelmed at the end of it?
If so, check out these time management hacks that have helped me put an end to overwhelm, and take back my day!
Set Realistic Goals
I learned this one the hard way.
I’d have a to-do list miles long, and at the end of the day, I found myself frustrated and wishing that there were more hours in the day.
As much as I wanted to do ALL THE THINGS, I knew that I’d either burn out completely
OR
I’d become a walking ball of frustration ready to lash out on everyone.
So instead, I only set five major goals each day.
I know five doesn’t sound like a lot, but with two kids, it is more than enough.
Plus, I usually finish all five and am feeling really accomplished at the end of the day.
Embrace Time Blocking
Time blocking is a technique that I recently adopted and it has completely changed the game.
In short, time blocking is a technique where you group together similar tasks, and knock them out in a specific period of time.
It’ll take some practice to learn how long it actually takes you to finish a certain task, but once you know, you’ll be that much closer to taking control of your day!
If you’re a mom of two young kids, like me, the best time to start incorporating time blocks is during nap time, and any other time that your kids are sleeping or distracted.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but any other time may be setting you up for failure.
Don’t get me wrong, things will happen and interrupt your ‘time block’ (kids will be kids), but this is why we set realistic goals.
Find The Beauty In A Routine
Before I became a mom, I HATED routines.
I was a self-proclaimed ‘go with the flow’ kinda woman, but two kids shut that all the way down.
Trust me, I know routines can feel mundane, but a slight change in perspective can reveal that they are truly a blessing in disguise.
Consider your kids’ bedtime routine…
Without that routine, you’d have one unregulated kiddo who’d pretty much starts to call the shots around bedtime.
Instead, if your anything like me, by the end of the day, you’re probably really looking forward to bedtime, and as a result, the bedtime routine is a must.
The same goes for your day-to-day routine.
So instead of dreading your routine, learn to embrace it!
Eliminate Distractions
As millennials, we are probably the most distracted generation to ever to exist.
That said, you and I both know how ‘checking the time’ can turn into a full 30 minutes of scrolling on social media.
As busy moms, 30 minutes is a huge chunk of time that we can’t afford to waste.
Besides, I know that I’m guilty of spending way too much time on my phone.
This is why I started using this beautiful, handcrafted, wooden watch from JORD Watches.
JORD Watches carries a variety of unique watches for men and women.
I received this beautiful Olive and Aegean Blue watch from the Cassia Collection and I’m obsessed!
What makes JORD different from other watches is that each watch is made from 100% natural wood with no toxic chemicals added.

Since incorporating it into my daily routine, I’ve spent 50% less time on my phone and more time actually getting things done.

Multitask When Necessary
Multi-tasking gets a bad rap sometimes, but it can be extremely beneficial when done right.
Thats said, you definitely shouldn’t attempt to do everything at once.
Instead, multitask smarter.
If baby is fussy but dinner needs to be cooked, consider wearing baby.
This gives them the comfort they need and dinner still gets cooked.
Are you an exclusive pumper like me, but your kids are fussy every time you set up to pump?
Consider reading a story to them while you pump to keep them calm.
The key to multi-tasking is knowing how to get things done without trying to do everything at once.
Which brings me to my next point…
Put It Off For Tomorrow
Some things just have to wait.
As moms we want to do it all.
I mean how wonderful would it be to have a house that’s consistently clean and housework that’s always done?
Well, unfortunately, for most of us, that’s not our reality.
What’s important is that our families are taken care of and that we don’t find ourselves overwhelmed at the end of the day.
So try not to be so consumed with ‘managing your time’ that you fail to make time for your family…
Even if that means that your don’t check everything off of your to-do list.
