Apple Dump Cake (The Best Zero-Effort Fall Dessert)
Apple Dump Cake: The ultimate fall treat! With just a few ingredients and minimal effort, you can easily create this cozy Fall dessert.
Fall weather is finally starting to creep up on us here in the South. The changing leaves and crisp air pretty much activate all of my Fall baking urges and desire for all things cozy – especially when it comes to food!
As much as I love a yummy Fall dessert, I’m not a big fan of spending a bunch of time in the kitchen slaving over a hot stove – but y’all knew that already.
That said, if you want a quick, practically zero effort Fall dessert that will wow your family and leave your house smelling AMAZING, you have to try this delicious Apple Dump Cake.
The best part about this dessert? You literally can’t mess it up! I mean, you can but ya know…
While I wish ‘dump cakes’ had a more attractive name, the main point of a dump cakes is to technically dump all of the ingredients into a pan and cook without having to add any additional effort. Long story short, no mixing is required.
While dump cakes and cobblers are very similar, the main difference between a dump cake and a cobbler is all in the preparation. The topping of a dump cake should not be mixed. On the other hand, for a cobbler, the topping can be a batter, a dough, or even a pie crust. Then it is spread or dropped over the fruit filling before baking.

This easy apple dump cake recipe is made with only 7 ingredients (I know, I know, not quite a 5-ingredients or less recipe bummer), and is super easy to whip up making it perfect for those cozy fall weekends and/or gatherings!
Here’s what you need to make this delicious Apple Dump Cake:
Preparing the Apple Dump Cake:
Once you have all of your ingredients, grab your favorite 13 x 9-inch baking pan and preheat your oven to 375°F. I also like to place my butter into the freezer for a few minutes. It makes the butter a lot more firm and easier to slice.
Using a stick of butter, grease the inside of the baking pan. You can also use cooking spray if you prefer.
Once the pan has been greased, add the canned apple filling to the bottom of the pan. Next, add in the cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract and mix in together with your apples until well combined.
Next, take your spice cake mix and sprinkle it evenly over the top of the apples. Once covered, use a spatula to smooth the cake mix over the top but DO NOT MIX IT with the apples.
Once you’ve smoothed out the cake mix, take your butter and cut it into squares. Place them evenly on top of the smoothed-out cake mix.
Once the butter has been added, sprinkle the peacans over the top. This step is completely optional but the pecan’s add some great texture to this yummy dessert!
Next, pop your apple dump cake into the oven for 50-55 minutes depending on your oven.
The cake should be done once the top is completely golden brown and the edges are bubbling with golden goodness.
The dump cake, especially the apple filling will be extremely hot so be sure to allow it to cool for at least 5-10 minutes before serving!
While you could totally enjoy this dish as is, in my humble opinion, it’s best served with a few scoops of vanilla ice cream. You can even drizzle some caramel syrup on top for extra decadence!
