These delicious cabbage steaks are packed with flavor, super simple to make, and are the perfect side for just about anything!

Cabbage is one of those vegetables that are completely underrated yet extremely versatile. Not to mention, cabbage has so many health benefits! My hubby and I tried these cabbage steaks a couple of years ago (pre-TMSAHM), and they were absolutely delicious!

I’m pretty sure I was attempting to lose the baby weight and eating ‘low carb’ at the time and I wanted to get creative with my meals while also eating more vegetables.

In the South, one of our favorite ways to cook cabbage was to fry it – in bacon grease. Delicious, but definitely not healthy. Needless to say, these cabbage steaks are a great alternative!

While this isn’t one of my signature 5 ingredients or less recipes, it’s totally worth the extra spices to really bring out the flavor!

So without further ado, keep reading to grab the full recipe and assembly instructions.

How To Prepare The Cabbage Steaks:

Once you have all of your ingredients, the prep for these cabbage steaks is super simple!

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Slice your cabbage into 5-6 slices, depending on your preferred thickness, and lay them flat on your parchment-lined baking sheet.

Next, brush each cabbage steak with oil and generously season each cabbage with the spice mixture. Next, drizzle your teriyaki sauce onto each cabbage steak before placing them into the oven.

PRO TIP: be sure to flip your cabbage steaks and add oil, seasoning, and teriyaki to the other side to ensure the flavors penetrate all the way through.

Bake your cabbage steaks in the oven for 15-20 minutes depending on the thickness of the cabbage steaks. We personally prefer thinner cabbage steaks whenever we are pairing them with an easy dinner.

You can also opt to broil your cabbage steaks for 1-2 minutes, depending on the thickness but be sure to keep a very close eye on them to ensure that they don’t burn.

Once done, remove your cabbage steaks from the oven and sprinkle them with parsley for a final touch!

Storage and Substitutions:

How do I store cabbage steaks?

To store cabbage steaks, place them in an airtight container & store them in the fridge for 2-3 days. I highly recommend using a glass container if possible, but no matter what container you use, make sure that it’s air-tight! Be sure to allow your cabbage steaks to cool completely before storing them.

How do I reheat cabbage steaks?

You can reheat these cabbage steaks pretty easily! One option is to heat them in the oven at on a lined baking sheet for 375 for 5-10 minutes or until warm all the way through.

You could also heat them in the microwave for 40-50sec until warm all the way through. You may need to add a bit more teriyaki sauce to bring out more of the flavor.

What goes well with cabbage steaks?

Cabbage steaks are extremely versatile and go well with pretty much anything! We love them during summer since they are great with grilled chicken, ribs, or steak recipes. They also pair well with other sides such as rice, other vegetables, and especially these bacon-wrapped sweet potatoes. The possibilities are endless!
