The holidays are finally here and I’m so excited to dive head-first into all of the decorating, baking, and memory-making!  One of my favorite things about the holidays is all of the fun holiday gatherings and these mini trifles are perfect for entertaining!

While I love a beautiful large trifle at any holiday gathering, I’m also a fan of anything mini! These mini trifles are the perfect serving size and are a great way to wow your guests with an unexpected, yet delicious dessert!

These mini trifles are made with moist, delicious cake, fresh strawberries, and yogurt for a light, refreshing treat!

Here’s what you need to make these Easy Mini Trifles:

  • Mini Trifle Cups
  • Vanilla Flavored Activia Lowfat Yogurt
  • Angel Food Cake
  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Whipped Cream

One of the best things about this trifle recipe is that you can always add in your favorite ingredients to make it your own! That said, the hardest part about this recipe is finding mini trifle cups to make them in. I love these individual trifle cups (the ones featured in this blog post) in a pinch. However, if you have a bit more time to prep, you can always check out the variety of mini trifle cups that Amazon has to offer! No matter what style of trifle cups you choose, when making mini trifles for entertaining, I highly recommend plastic instead of glass!

Prepping the Mini Trifle Ingredients

Before assembling the mini trifles, it’s best to prep all of your ingredients ahead of time so that you can simply layer each ingredient when it’s time to assemble.

Slice your strawberries lengthwise and place them in a medium-sized bowl. You could also cut your strawberries into smaller pieces if you prefer more berries in your mini trifle. If you’d like a sweeter mini trifle, you can ‘marinate your strawberries’ by tossing them in lemon juice and sugar. Then cover them, and place them in the fridge for at least 15 minutes.

Next, using a cookie cutter (or one of your trifle cups), cut out two slices of cake per trifle that you plan to make. So if making 4 trifles total, you want to cut out 8 circular slices of cake. You could also opt to cut your cake into small cubes and use a handful for each cake layer.

While traditional trifles are usually made with pudding, custard, or jello, to make a lighter version of this dessert, I use yogurt in between my layers! Activia’s vanilla yogurt is perfect for these mini trifles thanks to the delicious vanilla flavor and the billions of live and active probiotics that it contains. Activia’s yogurt is always easy to find in the dairy aisle at my local grocery store. There are endless, creative ways to use the products in the dairy aisle – from easy dessert recipes like this one to cooking, meal prep, drinks, and snacks.

Assembling the Mini Trifles

Once you have all of your ingredients ready to go, it’s time to assemble your mini trifles.

Grab your mini trifle cup and add in the sliced (or cubed) cake, your strawberries, and a dollop of yogurt! Repeat these ingredients again and after adding in the yogurt, place your trifles in the fridge for at least an hour before serving. By allowing them to be refrigerated, the flavors from the cake, strawberries, and yogurt have time to ‘marry’ and you get a much richer flavor.

Once you are ready to serve your trifles, remove them from the fridge, top them with whipped cream, and enjoy!

The best thing about these mini trifles, other than being absolutely delicious, is that they can be made up to a day ahead making them perfect to prep for holiday parties and gatherings!

Once assembled they can be stored for up to two days in the fridge, so be sure to tell your guests in case they would like to take one to go!

There you have it!

Delicious mini trifles that are sure to wow your guests this holiday season!
