Here’s what you need to make these delicious Pumpkin Spice French Toast Sticks in the air fryer:
- International Delight Pumpkin Pie Spice Coffee Creamer (my secret ingredient)
- Buttermilk (or your preferred milk)
- Sliced Bread (Texas Toast or any thicker variety of bread)
- Powdered Sugar (optional)
The air fryer is one of the easiest ways to make french toast sticks and with the cooler weather finally creeping in, I decided to add a seasonal touch to this easy recipe and make these french toast sticks pumpkin spice flavored. The secret ingredient that I use to get the pumpkin spice flavor is Pumpkin Pie Spice Coffee Creamer!
It adds the perfect amount of flavor and the addition of the coffee creamer helps keep the French Toast Sticks moist!
How To Prepare The French Toast:
To prepare the French toast, preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees. If you aren’t familiar with the idea of preheating your air fryer, or if your air fryer doesn’t have a ‘preheat button’, don’t fret. Simply program your air fryer to the desired temperature and allow it to run for about 5 minutes.
While your air fryer is preheating, slice your bread into 3-4 pieces per slice. For a thicker French toast stick, I like to cut my bread into 3 pieces per slice. Once you’ve sliced all of your bread, set it aside and prepare your egg mixture.
Combine the eggs, buttermilk, pumpkin spice coffee creamer, and a dash of cinnamon in a bowl and mix well.
Next, dip each piece of bread into the egg mixture making sure that they are fully coated, and place them onto a baking rack until you finish soaking each piece of bread.
Once you have coated each slice of bread with the egg mixture, spray your air fryer basket with nonstick spray and place the bread into the air fryer. You can also use a reusable silicone air fryer mat inside of your air fryer basket (still spray with nonstick spray though) to prevent sticking. Ensure that your French toast sticks are not overlapping so that they can cook through evenly.
Cook in the air fryer at 375 degrees for 6 minutes. Once done, flip and cook for an additional 2-4 minutes, keeping a close eye on your French toast sticks to make sure that they don’t overcook.
Once done, remove the French toast sticks from the air fryer and garnish with powdered sugar. Pair with your favorite maple syrup and/or fruit toppings and enjoy!
PRO TIP: Be sure to spray your air fryer basket with non-stick spray before adding in your french toast!
Commonly Asked Questions:
What kind of bread should be used for French Toast?
The best bread to use for French Toast is Brioche Bread, Challah Bread, Texas Toast, and good ole white bread. For French Toast, the thicker the bread is, the better. While Brioche Bread is definitely the top choice for French Toast, I’ve also used Hawaiian Bread to make these French Toast Sticks and the sweetness from the Hawaiian Bread complemented the French Toast flavors perfectly!
Can I make this Air Fryer French Toast without the Pumpkin Spice?
Absolutely! These air fryer French toast sticks are perfect for any busy morning, any time of the year! Simply make the recipe minus the Pumpkin Pie Spice Creamer and you are good to go! You can also add a bit of vanilla extract for a sweeter flavor.
